Mobile RV Repair in Sebring: We Come to the Rig

Mobile RV repair means we drive to your rig, at your resort site, your fish camp, your storage lot, or your driveway, and diagnoses and repairs it there instead of you hauling it to a dealer service bay. In Sebring that call costs a $75 to $150 trip fee plus $125 to $190/hr labor, parts and tax additional, and the diagnosis always comes before the quote. Why the repair has to come to the rig here

Highlands County’s RV population is mostly parked, not passing through. Winter residents set up on the US 27 resorts between Avon Park and Lake Placid in November and do not move until April: slides out, awning staked, skirting on, a boat on a trailer beside the rig at the Istokpoga fish camps. Full-timers live in the same parks through the summer. Park models never move at all.

Getting one of those rigs to a dealer means breaking camp, retracting a slide that may be the very thing that is broken, towing or driving an hour or more, waiting on a service department that books out weeks in season and prioritizes units it sold, and then doing the whole thing in reverse. For a rig that is home for the winter, that is not a repair, it is an eviction. Mobile service exists because of that math.

What gets repaired on site

Roof and sealant. Sebring gets about 52 inches of rain a year and more than half of it falls June through September. Lap sealant that stays wet for weeks lifts at the edges, and the first sign is a stain on the ceiling. The fix is to dig out the failed sealant, reseal vents, skylights, and seams, and trace the leaks that are actually a clogged AC condensate pan.

Rooftop air conditioning. Capacitors, fan motors, control boards, clogged condensate drains, packed coils, and full unit replacement. From May through October the AC on an occupied rig here runs more hours than anything else on it.

Slide-outs. Motors, rack-and-gear systems, Schwintek columns, synchronization, and the wiper and bulb seals that let water into the floor when they dry out and crack.

Plumbing and water heaters. Water pumps, check valves, lines, city-water regulators, holding-tank gate valves, and Suburban and Atwood water heaters: thermocouples, elements, anode rods, and full replacement.

Appliances and 12V. Norcold and Dometic absorption refrigerators, furnaces, converters, battery banks, fuses, and lighting. Converter replacement is a routine call in a state that leads the country in lightning density.

Generators. Onan and portable units that will not start after sitting through a wet summer, surge under load, or shut down on fault codes.

Fiberglass and delamination. Sidewall bubbles, gelcoat cracks, and the water intrusion behind them, which in this humidity is nearly always the cause.

Not covered: engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, or anything chassis. That belongs at a truck shop. Our scope is the set of systems we can test, meter, and fix at your site.

How the call goes

1. Intake. Year, make, model, what is failing and when it started, and where the rig sits: park and site number, fish camp, storage lot and row, or street address. Gate codes and visitor policies matter.
2. Scheduling. We set the trip fee and the visit window. Flag an active leak or no AC on an occupied rig so it is treated as urgent.
3. Diagnosis on site. We test, meter, and inspect before naming a number. A water heater that will not light gets its thermocouple checked before anyone says the word replacement.
4. A written quote. For motor vehicle repair shops, Florida Statute 559.905 requires a written estimate when the work will exceed $150, with the rate structure and warranty terms spelled out; coach-only RV work is excluded from that law, but the same written quote is the standard to expect. You get one, and you approve it before work starts.
5. Repair, or parts order and return. Most common failures close on the first visit with parts on the truck. When a part is special-order, we tell you how long it will really take and book the return trip before we leave.
6. Function test with you watching. You see the system work, get a plain-language rundown, and hear about anything else we spotted up top, with photos if you cannot climb.

Working inside the parks

Around Sebring, a lot of RVs sit inside gated resorts and fish camps, and that is part of the job. We check in at the office or gate as your visitor, drive at park speed, keep the work area tidy, and do not run a drill during quiet hours. On the resorts, your neighbor is a few feet away. At the fish camps on Lake Istokpoga, the lanes are narrow and there are boat trailers everywhere, so say in the request where a service vehicle can park.

Owners who are not in Florida can have work done remotely: photo documentation, a phone call with the written quote, and a video function test are normal arrangements for us. If your rig summers on a Highlands County site while you are up north, a spring inspection before you leave is the single best money you will spend on it.

Honest limits

We are an independent service, not a dealer and not factory-authorized, so we cannot perform manufacturer warranty repairs. If your component is under warranty, check with the manufacturer first; some reimburse independent repairs, many do not, and it pays to know which situation you are in before you pay for anything.

Do not accept a quote off a phone description, either. We see enough “dead” air conditioners that turn out to be a capacitor, and “roof leaks” that turn out to be a condensate pan, that quoting blind would be dishonest. The trip fee buys the diagnosis, and the diagnosis is where the money gets saved.
