Mobile RV Repair in Lorida, Florida

Lorida is the fish-camp end of Highlands County: an unincorporated community strung along US 98 between Sebring and Okeechobee, on the north and east shore of Lake Istokpoga. It is about 20 miles from our Sebring base, outside the standard-fee ring, so the trip is priced by mileage and quoted before we roll. Labor at $125 to $190/hr and the published job ranges are the same as in Sebring: on-site repair for roofs, rooftop AC, slides, plumbing, refrigerators, generators, and 12V.

The lake sets the terms

Lake Istokpoga is 26,763 acres, the fifth largest lake in Florida and the largest in the county, with an average depth of about four feet and a maximum of ten. It is connected to the Kissimmee River by two canals, it has five public boat ramps, and it has at least half a dozen fish camps on its shore. On the Lorida side, Mossy Cove Fish Camp and RV Resort on Mossy Cove Drive has full-hookup RV sites with 30-amp electric, water, and sewer. Trails End Fishing Resort has RV sites and cabins on the water. The Hickory Hammock Istokpoga Canal boat ramp is at 8024 US 98.

That shallow, wide lake is why Lorida rigs live a harder life than resort rigs in town. The air over it in the muggy season is saturated, so rooftop AC condensate pans clog, slide seals mildew, and lap sealant lifts from underneath. Wind comes across it with nothing to slow it down; the lake is known to be dangerous for boats in a windstorm, and the same wind drives rain into every unsealed seam on a rig parked at the shore. And the camps run on 30-amp pedestals, which means the rooftop AC, the converter, and the water heater are sharing less power than they would at a 50-amp resort site, and low voltage on a hot afternoon is hard on compressors and capacitors.

What we see most in Lorida rigs

Generators. Fish-camp rigs run their generators. That means more varnished carburetors from ethanol fuel that sat through a wet summer, more skipped oil changes, and more control-board failures after a nearby strike. Onan units are most of it; the Onan page covers what fails first.

AC that cannot keep up on 30 amps. A 15K rooftop unit, a converter charging a battery bank, and a water heater on electric can trip a 30-amp pedestal or brown it out. We meter the pedestal before we blame the unit. See AC not cooling.

Lightning. Florida leads the country in lightning density, and an open lakeshore with a line of aluminum rigs on it is not where you want to be without a surge protector on the pedestal. After a storm, converters are the first casualty. We carry a spare.

Older rigs, longer parked. The camps hold a higher share of older rigs and long-term setups than the US 27 resorts. Original water heaters, first-generation slides, converters from another era. Older rigs reward exactly what we do: diagnose first, fix the failed part, skip the “replace it all” upsell.

How a visit works out here

Give us the camp name and the site, and tell us where a full-size truck can park without blocking the ramp or the lane. Fish camps are tight and everyone has a boat trailer; we work around it. If the rig can only be reached from one side, say so. Owners who are up north can have work done remotely with photos, a phone call with the written quote, and a video function test.

Because Lorida is a mileage call, it pays to bundle.
